Hosting Blues

First of all, I just want to thank all of you for reading this blog about Holly Mann. Each day, I'm encouraged to write because of the flow of blog visitors. I'm glad that you are interested in reading the chronicles of my life after buying Holly Mann's eBook, Honest Riches.

Right now, my hosting with BlueHost is failing up. Now, I understand that not all web hosting is not created equal. True, they have an affordable webshoting and it is recommended by Holly Mann. But for the site I wanted, I needed a bigger, much bigger memory. Bluehost, unfortunately, cannot handle the system that I want in my website.

My programmer at Scriptlance told me to get another host which I would most likely do. I want to contact Bluehost first if they can allow to give me more space. If not, I really have to cancel. Good thing is that, it has a refund. I didn't even know or didn't care before I signed up. That's because I trusted Holly Mann, because Bluehost is her recommended site. She said a lot of good things about Bluehost that I would never ever thought something like this will come up.

I do have a very ambitious website. I don't know what I was thinking but it would cost me $40 a month just to host it. I didn't realize that. The bid for the template and the program was as high as $2000. Luckily, I found a programmer who already has a template and a program like this so it would not cost me much to get the website. But the hosting is another story.

Well, don't get me wrong. I think Bluehost is a superb web hosting. And for it's type of service, it's the best in its league. And there's nothing wrong whatsoever. Just a case of mismatch between a host and a site, if you understand what I mean.

Well, for now, I'm waiting for the reply of Bluehost to my ticket. Hopefully, they'll just cut the chase and refund my $95.00.

I just went with Blue Host as well. I have been happy with Yahoo's servers, but their minimum is $12 a month. I just set up Joomla at Holly's recommendation on Blue Host. I'm not quite comfortable with Joomla yet since most people start with a template and I always start with a blank page with my websites.

I bought the Rich Jerk's ebook when it was selling for $50, but saw Holly's "no thank you Rich Jerk" comments so I bought her book as well. I skimmed over the Rich Jerk, but didn't read it, instead, I started reading Honest Riches 2. Except for the few pages in the beginning about business entities & corporations, I found it appealing. I'm actually on my 4th reading of her book and I'm looking forward to her 2008 edition which she has announced.

I agree with you that even with all the tips and techniques she shows you in her ebook, it's still a challenge to find something that really pays big. If one is willing to do an interesting blog, and make daily entries, then they could make $50 to $100 a month easily with Adsense. I heard Joel Comm say that one guy is making $250,000 a year with Adsense on his blog. I think he does a blog on home improvement. Of course you can host it on Blogger and that's free, so it's just money coming in.

Joel Comm's mother is travelling around the world and funding her expenses with her blog/website at: http://www.travelswithsheila.com/. Joel made it sound like this site actually pays for all her expenses as she explores the world and then talks about it online. That's pretty cool...

I did a site on flashlights that's making about $50 a month Brightest Flashlight Reviews. It's got some Adsense on it and the main engine is through an affiliate relationship with Amazon. All the flashlights you see displayed are done with their free aStore site builder. That is a free service that only takes a few minutes to build a site. Like Blogger, Amazon will host the store on their servers for free.

I built another aStore selling massage supplies for no cost using Amazon's servers once again. I did buy the domain name: Massage Tables Chairs and Oils.

You mentioned that you haven't had good results with Google AdWords. It can be good under the right circumstances, but like you said, it's tough, especially when selling inexpensive items. I use it mainly just to get some traffic right when I first launch a site, but then stop it later as the site comes up in the search engines.

So, even though these two techniques don't make a lot of money, it is clear that simply repeating the process multiple times will build a predictable income. You could snowball this over a year or two adding $10 to $50 income per site.

For fun, I just started building a site about Holly Mann. I find her story inspirational and to me her book shows that she's overcome many Internet marketing hurdles with little money to invest. She was a survivor. She was making less than $1000 a month online when she wrote her first edition. With every new edition, you'll see her skills growing.

You mentioned that you wrote her and it took her a long time to respond. That is frustrating, but for selling an ebook for $37 online, it's hard to expect too much personal attention. As the emails have grown and become hard for her to handle, she's been relying on her blog to give more support.

By the way, I finally read the Rich Jerk's ebook after having it for almost a year and it's okay, but I think Holly's book is better for beginner's. The Rich Jerk had a great marketing schtick, but the actual content was pretty standard. That's probably why his book in selling for $9 now, while Holly's is at $37.
